HPC Systems Group Leader Position at Swiss National Supercomputing Centre
CSCS, the Swiss National Supercomputing Centre, is an autonomous branch of ETH Zurich. It provides, develops, and promotes technical and scientific services for the Swiss research community in high-performance computing. CSCS also collaborates in a multitude of international projects, many funded by the European Commission. We are looking for a HPC Systems Group Leader A key responsibility of the role will be to manage a technical team of 6 System Engineers, who are entrusted with HPC systems which are tailored to the requirements for certain customers or research projects. Current customers of the group include the Swiss meteorological survey and the Swiss organization of particle physicists participating at the LHC experiment at CERN. The team is also responsible for the multi-Petabyte data storage services at CSCS. The HPC Systems Group Leader reports directly to the General Manager of CSCS, who runs the Computing Services section of the centre.
We are seeking to recruit a senior HPC professional with technical systems background, and 8+ years of experience. We expect the new Group Leader to hold a university degree in science or engineering. This role will suit a candidate who has considerable experience in managing teams and projects as well as experience in organizing delivery of an HPC service on time and on budget.
As technical qualifications, we expect excellent technical knowledge of and demonstrated experience in building and operating tightly coupled, large-scale Linux clusters as well as high-performance parallel file system technologies such as Lustre, GPFS. The successful candidate will have knowledge of and demonstrated experience in high-performance networking technologies such as Ethernet, Infiniband, Fibrechannel, as well as parallel programming technologies such as MPI, OpenMP. Good understanding of the Linux operating system is a must, experience with grid technologies would be a asset.
Our preferred candidate will have strong influencing and networking skills, and be a clear communicator who can think creatively in solving technical problems as well as organizational issues. We are looking for a Leader with sound interpersonal and communication skills, who is fluent in English. Knowledge of German and/or Italian would be an advantage.
