Today, VIA is announcing an update to the Nano platform and is unveiling a new dual-core variant of the processor—the Nano DC—and announcing support for the VN1000 chipset that was released back in December ’09, which sports a DX10.1 class integrated graphics core. The GTX580 builds on an optimized circuit called the GF110 (with the 480 being the GF100). NVIDIA has changed it’s target with the Fermi architecture from launch – it was first targetted toward servers and the like, but the bloat associated with the GPGPU parts on the GPU caused it to draw more power, which in turn creates more heat which in turn requires a faster spinning fan to keep quiet – it also takes up valuable space on the 40nm GPU that could be used to make the card faster in games.

MSI is claiming the title of “world’s fastest” with the launch of its single-GPU graphics card, the N480GTX Lightning. According to the company, the card established a new world record by reaching P39281 through 3DMark Vantage. It achieved this milestone thanks to the overclocking capabilities of the new Power4 Architecture and a core clock of 1450 MHz (using liquid nitrogen).
